Why Your Pearl SCORE Might Look Lower Than Before
If you opened the Pearl App and noticed that your SCORE looks lower than it used to, don’t panic. Your home hasn’t lost its features or value. What changed is the way the Pearl SCORE™ is calculated and displayed. And don’t worry! Your existing Pearl Report with the original score and, if applicable, associated medallion level of Silver, Gold, or Platinum, is still available to you in the Pearl app documents center.
1. A New Grading Scale.
Pearl’s previous score had been on a 1-1400 scale, partly as a result of including more features that could be recognized and could earn Pearl points. With this most recent update, Pearl has recalibrated the scoring system to a more intuitive 1-1000 score, which was the original scale that Pearl had in 2017.
2. Keeping Up with Changing Codes, Standards, and Technologies.
Pearl recently updated the SCORE to align with the latest industry standards and to offer greater insights into how your family’s quality of life can be protected and enhanced when it has high-performing features. This means some features may not earn as many points as they had previously. For example, LED lighting used to earn many more points when most homes still had incandescent lighting. Now, LED lights are becoming the norm.
3. More Home Characteristics and More High-Performing Home Features.
Pearl’s previous score was primarily focused on energy efficiency and renewable energy features, and some associated non-energy benefits. Pearl’s new SCORE framework is a significant expansion. It includes the full suite of characteristics that align with a high-performing home. Safety and Indoor Air Quality. Comfort. Operational efficiency. Resilience. And Energy Systems. What You Can Do Next
- Review your features in the Pearl App. Make sure all of your upgrades (like insulation, HVAC, solar, and more) are documented. You can also find new features that you can update that hadn’t been in our old scoring system, such as resilience features and property features beyond the home itself.
- Keep improving your home. Every upgrade adds to your SCORE, even under the new system.
- Use your SCORE as a roadmap. A lower score simply highlights opportunities for improvement.
Reassurance for You
Your Pearl SCORE is not a judgment of your home’s worth — it’s a tool to help you see where your home stands today and how you can improve its performance over time. Even if your score looks lower now, your existing upgrades are still adding comfort, efficiency, and value to your home, and we are better able to make that value visible when it’s time to refinance or sell.
