The Pearl Certification scoring system is designed to recognize the high-performing and energy-efficient assets in your home. Just like your credit score doesn’t start at zero, your Pearl Score starts at our baseline score of 600 points. You can earn up to 1,200 points total across our four Pearl asset categories:
- Building Shell – insulation, air sealing, windows, doors
- Heating and Cooling – heating, cooling, distribution systems
- Baseload – water heater, appliances, lighting
- Home Management – monitoring systems, controls, planning
Since home energy challenges vary by geographic location, the total points-per-asset available will adjust according to where you live. It’s also important to note that your Pearl Score is cumulative based on all the assets in your home, so be sure to provide as many details as possible and update your info as you make additional improvements to your home. The more we know about your home, the more accurate your score!
We also collect data on renewable assets like solar panels; however, our Pearl Score only allocates points for energy efficiency, not energy generation.
Certification Level | Total Point Threshold | Prerequisites |
Silver | 700 | R-19 attic insulation or heating and cooling systems that exceed the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) 2012 minimum efficiency standards. |
Gold | 825 | A blower door test must be conducted on the home. A blower door test measures the leakiness of a home. A very efficient and well-sealed home can measure as low as 1 ACH50. |
Platinum | 975 |
1. Heating and cooling systems have been performance tested by a qualified professional. 2. Whole house ventilation. |
